Product Description

THE SHIRE™ Tuppences

Four Tuppences in brass from The Shire. The brass Tuppence is equal to two pence, or two Pennies. On the obverse, surrounding the tree: Two Pence of The Shire, abode of the Hobbits. On the reverse, the four Farthings are symbolized by tree branches. Around them: Belegroth, also known as Michel Delving, and Shire Year and the date. Each denomination of Shire coinage has 4 variations featuring different trees. This four tree group contains all four possible trees: pine, elm, willow, and oak. Coin text is inscribed in Tengwar.

The coins in this set from the world of J. R. R. Tolkien are struck from solid brass, measure 2.7 cm in diameter, and weigh 4.8 grams. Coin artwork by Greg Franck-Weiby.

The set contains coins treated to look as if they have been handled and circulated within their world. This process is done by hand, and it is both an art and a science. Coloring and patinas will vary. No two sets are exactly the same! Coins are struck one at a time in the USA using antique machinery and traditional coining techniques. A colorful description is included with history, translations, and facts about the coins.
